FAI Resource Library: Terms of Use
1. About these terms
The Firearms Accountability Initiative (“FAI”) Resource Library is a password-protected collection of research, data, legal materials, and analysis that FAI shares with its partners to support gun industry accountability work. By accessing or using the Library, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not access the Library.
If you access the Library on behalf of an organization or government office, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these terms for that organization, and the terms apply to both you and it.
2. Who may access the Library
Access is limited to individuals FAI has approved. Approval is at FAI’s sole discretion and may be withdrawn at any time.
- Credentials are personal. Do not share your password or access link with anyone, including colleagues at your own organization. Colleagues who need access should request it from FAI directly.
- Keep access secure. Use reasonable care to protect your login, and do not access the Library from shared or public devices where others could view or retrieve materials.
- Tell us when things change. Let FAI know if you leave your organization or your role no longer involves accountability work, so we can update your access.
3. Confidentiality and responsible use
Materials in the Library are shared in confidence and for one purpose: advancing lawful accountability work, including litigation, investigations, enforcement, regulation, policy development, and research. You agree to use them consistent with that purpose.
- Do not redistribute. Do not post, forward, or republish Library materials outside your organization’s team working on the matter without FAI’s written permission. Materials that are already public (such as court filings) may be used as you otherwise would, but FAI’s compilations, summaries, and analysis remain confidential.
- Respect markings. Some materials may be marked as privileged, attorney work product, draft, or subject to a common-interest arrangement. Handle them accordingly. Accessing them through the Library does not waive any privilege or protection.
- Protect personal information. Some datasets may include names or other information about individuals. Use that information only as needed for the work, store it securely, and do not publish it.
- Attribute appropriately. If FAI permits you to use Library analysis in public work, FAI may require that you credit FAI. You may not alter the materials in any way without FAI approval.
- Check before you rely. Verify facts, citations, and data against original sources before using them in filings, testimony, or public statements.
4. What you may not do
You may not:
- Sell, license, or otherwise use the materials for commercial purposes.
- Scrape, bulk download, or use automated tools to copy the Library, or attempt to bypass its access controls.
- Upload materials into public AI tools or use them to train AI models.
5. Accuracy, ownership, and no legal advice
- Accuracy. FAI works to keep materials accurate and current, but law, data, and case status change. Materials are provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, and may be incomplete or out of date.
- Ownership. FAI and its contributors keep all rights in the materials they provide. These terms give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable permission to use the materials as described here, and nothing more. Third-party materials remain subject to their owners’ rights and terms.
- Contributions. If you submit materials for the Library, you confirm you have the right to share them and allow FAI to make them available to other partners under these terms.
6. Security, termination, and changes
- Report problems promptly. If you believe your credentials have been compromised, or that Library materials were shared with someone not authorized to see them, notify FAI right away.
- Suspension and termination. FAI may suspend or end your access at any time, including for any breach of these terms. When access ends, you must stop using non-public Library materials and delete or return copies you hold, except where you must retain them under law, a litigation hold, or your organization’s record-keeping obligations. Sections 3 through 6 continue to apply after access ends.
- Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release FAI for any damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Library or its materials.
- Changes. FAI may update these terms from time to time. We will post the current version with its effective date, and continued use of the Library means you accept the updated terms.
- Public Records. If you receive a public records request that may cover Library materials, please let FAI know immediately.
